Our work is to ensure that both characteristics of this eternal duality, thus contrasting and opposing aspects surrounding this discipline, materialize among our students.
The main objective for us is to assist and guide students to achieve better results, improve their knowledge, learn new skills and problem-solving techniques, whether they wish to prepare for an assessment test or train for a mathematics competition, require remediation and help with homework, reinforce their knowledge and obtain assistance in relation to their current school program, or simply desire to be taught more advanced levels of mathematics in case they would like to progress even faster than the content covered in their current school program.
Moreover during the process, we intend to resonate with students and connect with young minds, deeply establish a trusting dynamic, build their confidence, keep them motivated throughout the years and encourage autonomy, while they acquire patience and are liberated from the fear of making mistakes. Over the course of the tutoring program, we aim among others to stimulate the development of student’s logical reasoning, abstract and critical thinking, the capacity to identify patterns and associations, and many other problem-solving skills.
Our approach and methods
With the acquired profound knowledge as well as broad and diversified experience, the tutor Mrs Sanja Filipovic, can effectively use her judgment and expertise to establish the most suitable and effective approach and apply the best adapted techniques according to her student’s needs, understanding and abilities level, which define each of them. Her teaching methods are strongly influenced and inspired by the Mastery learning model, instructional strategy and educational philosophy, which emphasizes the importance of students achieving a high level of competence (e.g., 90% accuracy) in prerequisite knowledge before moving on to new material. This approach allows students to learn at their own pace and ensures thorough comprehension of the subject matter.
Within the scope of her duties, Sanja also applies a holistic approach, which addresses among others cognitive, emotional and academic needs.
Furthermore, the diversity of students she encountered and the variety of curriculums used, among others enable her to identify weaknesses in student’s current school program and to overcome and compensate them, to apply varied and distinct strategies and methods to solve the same problem, and use tailored approach in function of student’s needs, learning style, and level of comprehension.
She truly believes that every student possesses the capacity to achieve desired results and are even more so capable of lifting their learning and analytical abilities to a much greater standard than they typically achieve, notably with an adequate ratio of sufficient effort and commitment as well as uncompromising discipline from the student, and adaptive help and guidance from the tutor.
Meet the tutor
Sanja is a dedicated and highly skilled mathematics teacher with a master's degree in mathematics and statistics. With over seven years of experience, she has taught in a classroom at both elementary and high school levels, as well as online, across various Canadian provinces. Sanja is praised for her effective teaching methods and has successfully guided students through diverse curriculums, including the highly regarded Singapore Curriculum. She has also prepared students for mathematics competitions and assessments, achieving notable success.
Tutoring service inclusions
Tutoring sessions
Online 45 minutes to 1.5 hours long Zoom and Virtual Board sessions. Implementation of student personalized learning and/or remediation plans, analysis of their performance, identification of barriers to academic success, and development of strategies to optimize performance.
Homework
To ensure consistent progress and achieve desired goals, students are expected to proceed with independent practice between tutoring sessions. To accomplish this objective, the students are provided with weekly homework sheets personalized in terms of their individual needs and goals, guaranteeing that the content covered is mastered and well taught.
Notes and reference materials
Personalized folder provided to each student (Google Classroom Service) where all the notes, reference materials and homework questions are posted on a weekly basis, regrouping all materials in one place for each student, listed and organized in the exact order followed during each session period.
Feedback and progress reports
Providing after every two hours of class, weekly or bi-weekly, written feedback as well as monthly student progress summary directly to families, using preconceived and relevant sheets.
